Statement from the International Network on Peacebuilding with Young Children on the current Israel- Palestinian Conflict
We the International Network on Peacebuilding with Young Children demand an immediate ceasefire to the current attacks on civilians in Gaza, Jerusalem and elsewhere in the region. We believe that all armed conflict is unwarranted, but we particularly abhor a conflict that disproportionately impacts on women and children.
To date, in this current violence, many of the fatalities and casualties have been innocent women and children. This violence must end now, and international law must be respected. Post ceasefire, we ask that the International Community supports a comprehensive Peace Process that deals with current governance and structural issues underpinning the conflict in the region. Recovery and reconciliation in the region require committed leadership that supports, social justice, human rights with a particular focus on the rights of children.
We recommend actions that will prioritise investment in children and families that have been most affected by the ongoing conflict and the current COVID-19 pandemic. We ask that post conflict efforts build on the extensive body of international research on the power of Early Childhood Development programmes to promote peace and sustainable development. We know that such actions will build strong resilient children and families who will be equipped to make a positive contribution to the future of the region.
We in the International Network on Peacebuilding with Young Children stand ready to support all peaceful actions in the region. We have a proven track record in actively involving children and families most affected by trauma and conflict in rebuilding their lives and communities. We have extensive expertise in supporting conflict and post conflict societies develop whole systems approaches that promote peace and social justice.
