Rainbow Family and Child Centre
Children’s profile: 0-4 year olds
Organisation profile: Child and family centre, a community hub providing early years services, youth services and activities and support for adults
Project overview: Creche and pre pre-school provision
Onsite services closed during lockdown but the centre used a variety of approaches to engage the children and support the families.
To engage the children educational activity packs were complied according to the ages and stages of the children and themed for the month delivered regular to all families. This work was supported by other activities to engage the children, reduce isolation and build community spirit. For example April packs were themed for Easter, and during the Easter Holidays staff ensured that every family was visited by the Easter Bunny.
The centre also prepared and delivered healthy lunches to the children daily. As the centre has a fantastic park onsite families were able to book this for the day to help promote outside and physical play with the children.
In terms of supporting parents and families through this time an emergency ‘hotline’ ran daily from 8:00am to 10:00pm, all parents were contacted weekly and the centre continued to engage with other agencies in relation to children with additional needs and liaised with social workers to support children at risk.
