The Importance of a September Baseline

As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, care and educational progress has been disturbed from its normal routine and plan.

This has impacted children in many ways, some maybe minor some maybe major.

It will be the practitioners role to ascertain how children have been AFFECTED  (impact or change) and what EFFECT (result of the change) this has had on the development and education.

It is necessary for all practitioners to gain a ‘Heartbeat’ of every child so that provision maybe planned in a way which may deviate form previous leadership planning experience.

What is a baseline?

A baseline assessment is a collection of data that correlates a child's needs, abilities and potential. It highlights strengths and areas for improvement so teachers are aware of every individual's requirements.

Why Baseline?

-   Find each child's starting point

  • Plan to meet each individuals development need and interest.

  • Inform the next steps.

  • Measure progress.

  • Identify the gaps.

Now more than ever has it  become so important to gather a baseline of a child’s development but also their attitude and disposition to learning.
