New NI Childcare Subsidy Scheme Awareness Campaign Targets Working Families
A new campaign to raise awareness of the Northern Ireland Childcare Subsidy Scheme (NICSS) is launching across Northern Ireland this month.
Launched at Stormont
Education Minister Paul Givan joined Mark Feeney from Early Years - the organisation for young children - at Stormont Parliament Buildings to mark the campaign launch, helping more families across Northern Ireland discover support with childcare costs. Eligible working families can save 15%, up to £203 per child, per month.
NICSS is a Department of Education initiative, administered by Early Years, helping eligible working families save 15% on childcare costs. Almost 27,500 children from over 20,000 households benefitted during 2025-26 and with the campaign we hope to support even more parents in 2027.
The scheme in numbers
Since its launch in September 2024 the scheme has grown year on year:
15% off registered childcare costs, up to £203 per child, per month
Almost 27,500 children from over 20,000 households benefitted in 2025-26
Over £26 million in savings delivered to eligible families since September 2024
“Affordable and accessible childcare plays an important role in supporting children, families and the wider economy. Since the launch of the Northern Ireland Childcare Subsidy Scheme in September 2024, the scheme has delivered over £26 million in savings to eligible families. I want every eligible family to benefit from the assistance available through the scheme and not miss out because they are unaware of their entitlement or unsure of how to apply.”
“Childcare is an essential part of family life and enables parents and carers to work, train and contribute to our economy. NICSS provides valuable financial support to eligible families, yet we know there are parents who may not realise they qualify. With families facing significant pressures on household budgets, a saving of up to £203 per child each month can make a real difference. This campaign is about making sure families and communities know what help is available and how they can access it.”
