Erasmus+ project "Building an Eco-Friendly Future with Robots - GREENCODE" partners gain experience in Rijeka, Croatia in October 2024

At the end of October 2024, the GREENCODE project partners met in Rijeka (Croatia) to discuss the first developed project results in a two-day working meeting - Higher Education Curriculum for Pre-primary Education Units and Digital Handbook on Inquiry-based learning) as an eco-friendly learning practice using simple coding and educational robotics activities in pre-primary education. During the working meeting, the next results of the project were also planned in detail - the Activity Book, Lesson Plans and Video Tutorials for Teachers.

The project partners had the opportunity to visit the University of Rijeka (UNIRI) and observe how the learning process at the Faculty of Pedagogy of UNIRI is progressing. At the university, future teachers not only gain theoretical knowledge of the pedagogical process in preschool and school, but also improve practical skills that contribute to the development of creativity and help prepare for work in an educational institution - for example, future teachers learn to sing, play the piano, create teaching materials, develop games, as well as create various creative works from clay (there is also a clay furnace in the lecture room - for firing ceramic works).

On the second day of the meeting, the project partners were offered the opportunity to get inspired and enrich their knowledge of the preprimary education system in Croatia by visiting one of the preschools in Rijeka (Kindergarten Srdoči). The project partners were invited to observe the learning process in this preschool educational institution, to get acquainted with the rhythm of work and the learning environment and educational materials.

At the end of the meeting, the project partners visited the "Children's House" (Dječja kuća), which is a house in a former factory building renovated in the art quarter, which is intended for public children's cultural and artistic events. This building has a modern 5-storey area with a children's library, a cinema, as well as a diverse and cognitive range of activities. This building can be visited free of charge for families with children in order to provide them with educational, creative activities in their free time.

In this art quarter you can also find a modern central library, which offers not only a large range of literature, but also the opportunity for young people to get acquainted with virtual reality opportunities in their free time, participate in seminars / workshops, play board games, program educational robots and practice playing musical instruments in a specially equipped soundproof room.

At this meeting, the GREENCODE project partners gained diverse impressions of learning opportunities for children and young people in Rijeka, which will help to inspire the further development of Greencode materials.

All developed materials and aggregated data will be published on the GreenCode project website: https://www.greencodeproject.com/
