Supporting all young children series - part four
Welcome to the supporting young children series hosted by the Early Years Quality Specialist Support team.
In this series we focus on emotional support for children, calming strategies for children and how to support behaviours.
Part four in the series focuses on Worry worms. The pandemic, followed by the fear of fleeing from your home to escape conflict will naturally leave children feeling anxious, worried, scared and in danger. Worry worms are a simple and child friendly way for children to have something to hold during these times and to share their feelings with. Worry worms can encourage children to talk about their worries as well as being a source of comfort in a new and unfamiliar environment.
Children who have experienced neglect, abuse, exploitation, torture or who are victims of war must receive special support to help them recover their health, dignity, self-respect and social life.
UNCRC Article 39
Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously. This right applies at all times, for example during immigration proceedings, housing decisions or the child’s day-to-day home life.
